Editor’s note
The ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 is a 2021 business laptop, and reading it in 2026 means reading it as a used or clearance buy. It runs Intel's quad-core Core i5-1135G7 with 8GB of upgradeable DDR4, and this configuration includes a discrete GeForce MX450 with 2GB of memory in addition to the integrated graphics.
What still holds up is the hardware philosophy. Memory is upgradeable to 48GB, the SSD is replaceable, and Lenovo's service manuals and spare parts remain easy to find — a T14 Gen 2 can be kept running with a battery and a bigger SSD for years. The aluminium body, the keyboard and the TrackPoint are all the reasons people buy ThinkPads in the first place. Ports are comprehensive: two Thunderbolt-capable USB-C, two USB-A, HDMI, an SD card reader and wired Ethernet, which is more than most current ultrabooks offer.
The age shows clearly in three places. The 14-inch panel is 1920×1080, 60Hz, 16:9 and covers about 95% sRGB — perfectly usable, unremarkable, and shorter than the 16:10 screens that replaced it. The webcam is 720p, which is poor for video calls, though an IR sensor still enables Windows Hello. And the Tiger Lake CPU has no NPU, so every AI feature Windows now advertises is off the table.
Buy it secondhand or refurbished if you want a robust, repairable machine for office work at a low price and you value ports and keyboard over speed. Skip it if you make a lot of video calls, want current performance, or expect the machine to remain supported and fast for another five years — the T14s Gen 6 or a current-generation ThinkPad is the sensible alternative.
