Editor’s note
The ThinkPad L14 Gen 2 was Lenovo's price-led business 14-incher, and this configuration is its entry point: an Intel Pentium Gold 7505 — two cores, four threads — with 4GB of DDR4 and, oddly, an optional discrete GeForce MX450 alongside.
Be clear about what that CPU means. Two cores in 2026 is enough for a browser, a document and email running one at a time. Windows updates, antivirus scans and background sync will all be felt. The 4GB of RAM compounds it, though memory is upgradeable to 64GB across slots and the SSD is replaceable, so the machine can be substantially improved for very little.
The display is the harder problem. This configuration has a 1366×768 TN panel, which is low-resolution by any standard and offers narrow viewing angles and weak colour. Higher-resolution IPS options existed for the L14 Gen 2, and if you are shopping secondhand it is worth insisting on one — this is not something you can upgrade easily later.
What remains good is the ThinkPad chassis logic. Two USB-C with Thunderbolt, two USB-A, HDMI, an SD card reader and wired Ethernet, plus a fingerprint reader and an IR camera for Windows Hello. It is 1.74kg and 19.1mm thick, so it is bulky, but it is also durable and easy to service. The 45Wh battery is small, and there is no headphone jack on this configuration.
Buy it only as a very cheap secondhand machine for a single simple task — a kiosk, a spare, a child's homework laptop — and only with a RAM upgrade. Skip it for any real work: even a used T14 Gen 2 is dramatically faster for a small premium, and a current budget laptop will have a far better screen.
