Editor’s note
The X13 Gen 2 is a 2021 machine and is now purely a used-market proposition. Approached that way it is one of the better cheap ThinkPads, because Lenovo had already moved this chassis to a 16:10 display — a 13.3-inch 1920 x 1200 IPS panel with near-complete sRGB coverage and an anti-glare finish that still holds up well.
The body is the other reason to consider it. 1.19kg, 18mm, a proper ThinkPad keyboard, Thunderbolt 4, two USB-A ports, HDMI and an IR camera for Windows Hello. The 54.7Wh battery was reasonable for the size and, on a well-kept example, still delivers a usable working day for light tasks.
The processor is where you have to be realistic. The Core i3-1115G4 has just two cores and four threads. That was modest in 2021 and it is limiting now — Windows 11 with a browser, a video call and a couple of background apps will find its ceiling quickly. The 8GB of LPDDR4X is soldered, so there is no way to compensate with more memory, and integrated UHD graphics with 48 execution units is the entry tier of that generation.
Buy it only as a cheap, light secondary machine for writing, email and browsing, or for someone whose computing genuinely is one thing at a time. The build quality and screen are far better than anything new at the same price. Skip it as a primary computer. A dual-core CPU with 8GB of non-upgradeable memory is a hard floor, and no amount of ThinkPad polish changes what happens when you open the fifteenth tab.
